Journey into Slash fantasy

8th May, 2007. 9:49 pm. The Bavarian Bogart

Draco's hands were shaking as he unwrapped the package that the morning owl had just dropped onto the table. His poached egg on wholemeal toast lay forgotten on his plate, slowly congealing.

His old man was with out a doubt a terrible father. Being a Death Eater and follower of he who should not be named was not the chosen past time of a man who was interested in supporting or encouraging his offspring.

However, on this cold winter morning in the great hall of Hogwarts, Malfoy's first born, Pure Blood son offered up a silent prayer of thanks as he unwrapped with trembling fingers his 16th Birthday gift, return address, Malfoy Manor.

The birthday message was brief but Draco was more interested in the parchment attached to the intricately carved, wooden chest. Bavarian Bogart ' Rare '. A common or garden Bogart protects itself from harm by assuming the guise of the viewers deepest fear. The Bavarian Bogart also assumes a guise in order to protect itself but unlike the Common variety it assumes the form of the viewers deepest desire.
Bavarian Bogarts have been hunted and captured by pleasure seekers from all over the Wizarding world. They do not breed successfully in captivity and with so few left in the wild in their natural state it is only a matter of time before they are extinct.

For once his father had been thinking about him. This was a gift that others would kill to own.
A soon as the thought entered his mind Draco's arms reacted instinctively, clutching the box tightly to his chest.
At the same moment he looked out towards the Gyrindoor table and his eyes locked with Ron Weasleys. He scowled at him and shoved the chest under his robes and onto the seat beside him.

" Somethings up with Malfoy ", Ron commented wryly in between cramming his mouth full of bacon. "He looks pretty sour about something."
" I heard that it's his birthday today," replied Hermine. " You would think that the little snake would be looking happy!."

Harry turned and looked over his shoulder towards the Slitherin table. Malfoy appeared to be engrossed in his breakfast, only stopping when Goyle handed him a present wrapped in shiny Green and silver paper.
As he unwrapped it he seemed to feel Harry's eyes on him and glanced up. For a moment they simply stared at each other, then Harry mouthed, " Happy Birthday ".
Malfoy smiled and looked at Harry as though he was very pleased about something and then turned his attention back to the gift in his hand.

" Well? " asked Ron. " What da ya think, he up to something?"
Harry sighed and pushed his food around on his plate. " Oh yeah he is up to something alright. He looked as though he had plans and knowing him, his idea of a fun birthday would involve a Bat Bogey Hex and an unsuspecting Griffindor!

Bat Bogey Hexs were far from Draco's mind as he rushed to his room to hide the chest under his pillow before heading down to Potions.
It was hard to concentrate in class when his mind was a jumbled mess of thoughts. Where could he open his gift? How would he keep it secret? How could he best protect it? What was his deepest desire?
He paused and looked out into space and chewed on his quill. His deepest desire?

" Potter ! " Snapes voice cut through the heavily perfumed air of the classroom.

" It's Senuious Root Potter not Senorote Powder. You need to grate it first....yes yes Miss Granger show Mr Potter how it's done."

Draco laughed and elbowed Goyle, " Oh dear Potty Potter's stuffed it up again, pity he doesn't have me as his partner instead of Idiot Weasley! "

He directed his attention back to his work bench and his question was forgotten.

The evening meal almost over Draco could barely hide his impatience. As soon as the dessert dishes had disappeared he was up and running up the stairs towards the Slitheryn Common Room and his bedroom.

" I just know that he's up to something'" mused Ron. I think I should patrol the corridor outside Slitherin for a bit just in case the slimy git has plans tonight. " I'll go with you Ron," said Hermoine. " Harry you coming? "

" Yeah, in a bit, there's something I have to do first."

As Ron and Hermoine headed towards the door Harry contemplated why it was that he was so obsessed with Malfoy.
In Potions when he had heard Draco's snide remark he had thought of how much better his grades would be if indeed he had him instead as a partner. Ron was the best mate in the world, loyal and trustworthy. In Potions however he was almost as bad as Harry.
Malfoy was a wizz at it. He seemed to have a natural talent for it and to be fair Snapes constant praise of him was most of the time based on Malfoy's actual talent rather than the fact that he was in the same house.
Malfoy was no doubt the only reason that that thicko Goyle was managing to scrape through and everyone knows that if Goyle's brain were chocolate he wouldn't have enough to make half a Chocolate frog!

He wondered if Malfoy had gotten any good presents from his parents. He had noticed something for a brief second under Malfoy's robes as he left the breakfast table that morning. It looked interesting and possibly antique. Perhaps a family heirloom.

As he headed for the door he found his steps taking him past Draco's seat and he paused when he spied a piece of ripped parchment on the floor. Curiousity got the better of him and he picked it up.
He read 'rden Bogart protects itself from harm by assuming the guise of the viewers de'

Oh no, this was much worse than a simple Bat Bogey Hex! If Malfoy released a Bogart as a prank he could cause total havoc. That must have been one of his gifts. Who on earth would think that a Bogart was a fun gift. Harry would not soon forget his first experience with a Bogart in ........'s classroom.

He would have to get it off him some how.
